Richland County Genealogical Society

Also see our group called "MAGIC"
The Richland County Genealogical Society was first organized in 1959 as The Ohio Genealogical Society. Members had been meeting for some five years when, in 1964, it was reorganized as The Richland County Genealogical Society, the first chapter of The Ohio Genealogical Society.

The purpose of The Richland County Genealogical Society is to foster an interest in all of the people who contributed in any way to the establishment and perpetuation of the Richland County area of Ohio; to aid in the publication, dissemination, preservation, and safeguarding of genealogical and other manuscripts pertaining to the area, including biographies, family and local histories; to carry on the work of educating Society members and the public; to secure and hold copyrights of books, periodicals, tracts and pamphlets of genealogical and historical materials relating to the people of the Richland County area.

   MAKE A DIFFERENCE:              Volunteer!

Are you interested in helping The Chapter and having fun doing it? We're always in need of volunteers, no matter your skill level and time available. Here are some of our opportunities:

Mondays: At the OGS Library, volunteers process Richland County Probate records by removing staples and recording names and pertinent information in preparation for scanning and indexing. The OGS Library is closed but volunteers work that day any time between 10 and 4:30 -- this is a multi-year project.

Third Thursday of the Month: The Chapter workday is at the OGS Library any time 10 to 4:30. There are a variety of projects available to suit everyone's interests and abilities.

Come join us!  You don't have to be a member.
