Mohican Area Genealogists Interested in Chromosomes
Mohican Area Genealogists Interested In Chromosomes (MAGIC) is an affiliate organization of the Richland County Genealogical Society. The organization was initially formed as Mohican Area Genealogists Interested in Computers when computers were new to genealogical research. The late Mary Jane Henney formed the group to facilitate the sharing of information regarding using computers in genealogical research efforts. The "Mohican Area" part of the MAGIC acronym was so-named because our members come from counties whose rivers feed into the Mohican River.
After learning enough to be comfortable with computers and software, DNA became the next learning challenge and the group's focus, thus the last word of the name was changed from "Computers" to "Chromosomes."
The group meets monthly and shares information regarding the rapidly developing area of DNA and genetic genealogy. The organization spends a significant amount of time providing mutual assistance to group members in solving DNA related genealogical research problems and providing advice on the interpretation of results and next-step advice and assistance to new DNA testers.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm.
Note: The April 14, 2026 meeting will be ZOOM ONLY. See the second paragraph below to obtain the Zoom link if you are not on our email list.
Beginning April 2026, our meeting venue will return to the Bellville Library (next to the Post Office), 97 Bell Street, Bellville, OH 44813. Come join us and learn about your DNA results!
(Note: In January, February, and March of 2027, our meetings will very likely be by Zoom only. We'll keep you posted!)
Questions (including obtaining Zoom link information) can be emailed to [email protected] or directly to Sunda Peters at [email protected] or by calling her at (419) 566-4560.
